"The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way." - Psalm 25:9 (NKJV)
One of the greatest treasures in our walk with God is not how much we know, but how willing we are to be taught. Psalm 25:9 tells us, “The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way.” Isn’t that beautiful? God does not resist the one who is weak, the one who admits, “Lord, I don’t know it all.” In fact, He draws near to such a heart and says, “Come, let Me guide you.”
God Guides the Humble
"The humble He guides in justice…"
Let’s be honest, none of us enjoys being corrected. Yet, God says He guides the humble in justice. The proud heart says, “I can figure this out on my own.” But the humble heart says, “Lord, I don’t trust my wisdom, I trust Yours.” You see, humility is not weakness; humility is dependence. And when we depend on God, He gently takes us by the hand and leads us through life’s twists and turns.
Think of a child crossing the street. They don’t argue with their father about which way to go, they just hold his hand. And that’s what God is asking of us. Not arguments, not resistance, but a hand slipped quietly into His.
God Teaches the Humble
"…and the humble He teaches His way."
The verse continues, “the humble He teaches His way.” Have you noticed that some people can sit in church for years and never grow, while others blossom in their faith? The difference is not exposure but posture. A proud heart hears a sermon and says, “That’s not for me.” But the humble heart says, “Lord, what are You saying to me today?”
Beloved, God’s Word becomes alive when we come with a teachable spirit. He delights to unfold His truth to those who are hungry. He whispers wisdom into the ears of the one who bends low before Him. That’s why humility isn’t just a virtue; it’s a key to understanding God’s way.
The Way of the Lord is Higher, But He Makes it Clear
Now, God’s way is often different from ours. His justice, His guidance, they don’t always make sense in the moment. But here’s the promise: if we stay humble, He won’t leave us wandering in confusion. He will teach us His way. And His way always leads to life, peace, and righteousness.
Think of Abraham, who didn’t know where he was going, but he trusted. Think of Mary, who didn’t understand everything, but she said, “Let it be to me according to Your word.” That is humility. And in that humility, they discovered God’s perfect plan.
Conclusion
So, church, here’s the question: Are we willing to be taught? Are we willing to admit we don’t know it all, so that the Lord can guide us in His justice? The blessing of this verse is this: the low road of humility leads to the high road of God’s wisdom.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, make us humble before You. Teach us to trust Your hand, to hear Your voice, and to walk in Your way. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
May this devotional remind you that the greatest strength in the Christian life is not found in self-reliance, but in humble dependence on the God who loves to guide His children.
